Sekumpul Waterfall

Sekumpul is in the north, in the hills above Singaraja, and it is the furthest I usually drive guests for a single sight. Several falls drop into the same green valley at once, and you hear them long before you see them. Most people who make the trip say it is the best waterfall in Bali. I agree with them.It is also the one that asks something of you. The valley floor is reached on foot, down a long stairway and across a river, then back up the same way in the heat. Nobody arrives at the bottom by accident. That is part of why it still feels quiet compared to the waterfalls closer to Ubud.

What To See

Sekumpul Waterfall

The main falls, a cluster of narrow drops landing in one basin about eighty metres below the rim. The viewpoint from the ridge is free to reach. Standing at the bottom is a different experience entirely.

Fiji Waterfall

Ten minutes further along the valley from the main falls, wider and easier to swim at. Most guests who make the walk do both.

Hidden Waterfall

A smaller fall on the same trail, usually the first one you reach on the way down. Worth the few extra minutes.

Lemukih Rice Terraces

The terraced slopes above the village, on the road in. Fewer visitors than Tegallalang and no entrance gate.

Git Git Waterfall

On the main road south of Singaraja, an easy ten minute walk from the car park. A good stop if the Sekumpul trek is not for you.

Banyumala Twin Waterfall

Two falls landing in a clear pool, about an hour west of Sekumpul. Steep descent, but shorter than Sekumpul and good for swimming.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

The lake temple at Bedugul, on the road between Sekumpul and the south. Cool air, and an easy stop on the drive back.

Things To Do

The Trek To The Valley Floor

Around forty minutes down on steps and dirt path, then a river crossing, then the climb back. Allow two to three hours for the whole thing at a comfortable pace.

Swimming Under The Falls

The basin at Fiji is the better swim. At the main falls the spray is heavy and the water pushes hard, so it is more standing than swimming.

The Viewpoint Only

If the trek is not realistic, the ridge viewpoint still gives you the whole valley. No shame in stopping there, and it costs less.

A Full North Bali Day

Sekumpul pairs well with Banyumala, the Bedugul lake temple, or Munduk on the way home. That turns it into a long day rather than a rushed one.

What I'd Tell You Before We Go

This is a full day. I will pick you up early, around 7am from Ubud and earlier from the south, and we will be back in the evening. It is not something to squeeze in around other plans.A local guide from the village is required for the trek, and the fee is separate from my driving. I will tell you the cost before we leave so there are no surprises at the gate.Wear shoes with grip and bring a change of clothes. The steps are wet near the bottom, the river crossing goes above the ankle, and you will not stay dry.In the rainy season the water runs brown and heavy, and after storms the trail can close. I will check conditions the morning we go and tell you honestly if it is not worth the drive that day.If stairs or knees are a problem, say so when we plan. Git Git or the Sekumpul viewpoint will give you a good day without the descent.
